Top Law Schools

Hello all, I went to junior college for several years and although my final GPA there was a 3.0, I earned 11 F's (not a typo) along the way before I started to take schooling seriously.

I finished my last 2 years at a university (GMU) where I earned straight A's in their IT program, 3.95 cum. GPA. Using the LSAC GPA calculator, which is unforgiving for course retakes, my LSAC GPA is a 2.7.

In the LSAT practice tests I'm scoring around 168, possibly could get a few more points if lucky. I live in the DC metro Area and would like to attend one of the George's (GT, GW or GM). So I'm wondering what my chances are? Also I would prefer to do one of their part-time programs although I'm not entirely sure if they would be any easier to get into.

Any advice or comments are most welcome,

Just based on numbers alone, my guess would be

Georgetown - Out
George Washington - WL/Out
George Mason - In

Given that most people do worse on the actual LSAT than on practice tests my guess is that none of the Georges let you in with that gpa, and that you are looking at TTT-ville. Stay in the IT field.

i think you're fine at george mason--assuming your recommendations are glowing and point to future success in law courses, you have a GPA addendum, and you get atleast a 168...they might be forgiving of one of their own. i don't know if there are any law schools that would completely disregard the 2.8 and go with the GPA that reflects your true potential, which is unfortunate.

also--part time programs have lower stats so i guess you could say they're easier to get into.

dakatz: I agree with your assessment and the final LSAT score will most likely be the make or break for gwu and gmu.

interestedbystander: Law School is more of a backup for me at this point, I'm early in my career and have the time/energy to earn a JD now. I don't view TTT as a death sentence, the JD provides me an opportunity to open doors/change careers down the road.

rw2264: Thanks for the reassurance with GMU. I'm starting to think that their tuition, location, and reputation are all tailor made for my situation.
