i know someone who worked 40+ hours a week, had a parent in the hospital, and was going to night school for a grad program while studying for the lsat. they busted their ass and averaged 3 full timed lsats every week for a few months prior to the test - and raised their score from 150 to 168. it's possible.

I know someone who studied for a week just so that she would be familiar with the format of the test and scored a 170+. Who cares? Of course it is possible. Anything is possible. This has no relevance for the OP, because it didn't happen to the OP.

Regardless, OP study harder. I jumped 17 points with a basic Kaplan course and those only last for a month. Get to work

Wait, what? Seriously? The OP started at 150. The OP is working full-time. The OP is dealing with a parent in the hospital. I thought the OP would appreciate knowing he/she isn't alone, and that despite seemingly overwhelming obstacles, hope is not lost. Why the hostility?

My Dad always gets mad at me because he studies all the time and only gets a B. I told him that's perfectly fine!
You definitely have to like what you study. I think law is so fascinating so that's why I don't think I'd mind studying it. LSAT on the other hand........... not so fascinating!! I think I probably also need to not get on facebook the whole time I am studying....

I'm pretty much in a similar situation with you. I have great GPA, but still have a lot to improve on LSAT.

But my practice score is improving ever since I've been reading Powerscore books and doing practice exams.

Yes, I totally understand you on 'fascination and focus'. I would get everything right if the question relates to a topic of my interest, but, on the other hand, I would lose focus and get it wrong no matter how easy it is if I don't find it interesting.

Well my diagnostic was a 150 so I really didn't do that much worse, but didn't get better with studying.

The point is, even if you can improve by just 10 points (to 158), there's a world of difference in your opportunities (Kent, Loyola and DePaul might give you a look). If you get to 165, then you have NU and, to a lesser degree, Chicago in your sights. Don't waste a 4.0 on John Marshall.

I didn't really know that John Marshall didn't have high employment prospects until I got to this board. When I went to the Chicago LSAC forum, they were one of the most packed tables!!

OP: My mother died 5 hours before my first LSAT. I got 150.
Retook for a 160, 6 months later. Didn't have time to study in between, did concentrate better.
The retake made a huge difference in my admissions, and now I'm in at USC. Retake.

I don't want to get into details, but I had a similar GPA. My first LSAT was decent and opened up some doors, but I retook and that decision will change my life. I will be going to a much higher ranked school and will have much better job prospects.

When in doubt, retake.

As funny as it sounds with my gpa, its just really hard for me to study. I hate studying and always take breaks and get distracted. It was really hard to take a whole timed test without taking breaks in it. I will try a lot harder because I really don't want to take it a third time!!

if so, then law school might not be for you.

RITALIN! visit a health care professional, get your prescription and study with it. Take it again and take the test. Increase your attention span and your score.

I am so sorry, I couldn't even imagine. I applaud you I would be too much of a mess to even take it and get a 120.

lol im not big on meds but thank you for your input. I just need to block time into my schedule and not stray away from it.

Only at clown school do 4.0s get 148s. Op must be talking about looks in which case I advise (re) taking the last along with diet and exercise.
