Full Ride to UIUC, Waitlist at ND...wat?
Got my waitlist letter today...I'm not terribly disappointed because I didn't expect ND to match the amount of money UIUC is offering me, but what the hell, man? Is this just because admissions is a crapshoot, or is Notre Dame pushing to raise their medians this year or something?
I'm 167/3.85, by the way.

Adcomms sometimes don't have any rhyme or reason...both of us are learning the hard way. If you like ND that much more than U of I sending a LOCI certainly wouldn't hurt. Keep in touch but keep it humble and friendly.

If a full ride at UIUC is your fallback option, 'tis only a flesh wound, my friend.

ND can be picky. Did you write a Why ND?
If you don't get T13, UIUC with a fullride is pretty damn good.

Is it just me, or are religious schools the most wacky when it comes to their admissions standards and practices?

ND engages in the most aggressive YP I have ever seen.

I think DonnyMost said it best in the Seattle U thread....the Jesuits work in mysterious ways.windycity wrote:I'm thinking so. Not unless you're Liberty, Regent or Pepperdine. I've always thought of Notre Dame as a good school that just happens to have a Catholic background, I could be wrong though?DonnyMost wrote:Is it just me, or are religious schools the most wacky when it comes to their admissions standards and practices?

Look at it this way. The religious/faith-based schools really engage in holistic evaluations. If people w/good numbers are getting rejected that's a sign that you can believe the hype. The less predictable admissions is, the more holistic. and with a faith-based school, only the adcom knows what it's looking for in applicants. They have a lingo all their own, and they look for students who speak and understand it. Plus there are only so many seats.adh07d wrote:Not unless you're Liberty, Regent or Pepperdine. I still say my experiences with the top-20's are the wildest "stuff' yet.

I was waitlisted with 164/3.84, decent softs, WhyND, and a vist. Assuming that this was not good enough, and your numbers are YP, who are they taking?Cupidity wrote:ND engages in the most aggressive YP I have ever seen.

Notre Dame has a small class and lots of applicants. They have the option to be picky.Cupidity wrote:ND engages in the most aggressive YP I have ever seen.

If so, then why aren't their medians higher?Veritas wrote:Notre Dame has a small class and lots of applicants. They have the option to be picky.Cupidity wrote:ND engages in the most aggressive YP I have ever seen.

I dunno, cause those people who do get in with high numbers decide to attend higher ranked schools? Looking at their LSN, I think it's hard to say they aggressively YP.im_blue wrote:If so, then why aren't their medians higher?Veritas wrote:Notre Dame has a small class and lots of applicants.
