What if you get off a waitlist so late that you've already paid tuition at another school - like potentially after the first day of classes if your school starts earlier? That would be a huge potential cost if there are no mechanisms in place to deal with this, and I haven't read anything before that suggests there are.

Most schools have a prorated reimbursement schedule for mid-semester withdrawals. It just may be buried in the financial aid website somewhere. I can't guarantee anything, but I'm almost positive you will not be in a position where you lose an entire semester's tuition for withdrawing in the first week. In fact, some schools may provide a full refund.

They probably won't care as they are purposefully waiting for 2nd deposit dates to pass. But you could always call and ask for a general waitlist update/information?
