It doesn't smell in the Colleges except at dusk every once and a while. For some reason the smell really carries then.

Right now Davis smells like a bunch of adcomms who aren't reading my application.

Perhaps instead of pursuing a career in law you and I should become adcomms at UCD after we get our JDs.

I just got an email from the Davis financial aid office letting me know about my "estimated" grant. It's very appealing, but I don't know if I can rely on an estimate too much.

Does anybody know how reliable these estimates are and if they'll give me a "final" amount before I have to make a decision?

I received the same e-mail too.

Does anyone know if these are academic grants or need-based grants? I've heard some people get 9k while others get 15k, what's the difference between these two groups?

From information I gathered on their website, Davis only gives merit based grants to 1% of their class. Granted, I could be pulling this out of my butt, but I think most money is distributed on need and not merit.

As far as the estimation, I would imagine that you would get a definitive amount prior to their deadline of April 15th.

Ugh, tell me about it. I am on them at GULC, UCLA, Vandy, Michigan, Duke and counting. It's only a matter of time until USC, Boalt and Texas add me to their WLs (if I'm lucky). I just hope that I can make it off one. Hopefully my LOCIs will be UNSCHTOPPABLE

Once you get in through the status checker, the packet comes a few days later. It's an envelope with information in it, including your acceptance letter. I only gave my permanent address so I don't know where they send it if you designated a temporary/school address.
