I believe it's random, from what I've read on the forums (with some being told explicitly by adcomms that they are random and to spread the word about that). I know people have been accepted without an interview (meaning no interview request at all), but I feel like it would look bad to decline an interview that was requested.

There's no reason it would be a bad sign. No way of knowing if you can decline and still be accepted, but if you want to attend, why not interview?

Second this big time. Lower-ranked school auto-denied me after I turned down an interview there despite being a good bit above their medians, Columbia has even more leeway to do so.

I went complete Jan 9th and got an interview request before this week, so they aren’t going in order per se
