Agreed. Though maybe they just have no money? In at Harvard, Vanderbilt at NYU, Mordecai at Duke....$$$ elsewhere. $90K from berkeley.

They said in an email that they would be letting people know their quartile rank on the WL in early April...but I'm not sure if that's happening.

Did any of you guys apply for the Berkeley Law Opportunity Scholarship? The language for eligibility is something like "first in your family to earn a bachelor's degree," which is pretty clear, but I'm surprised that someone with an older sibling who graduated two years before them isn't eligible. Can anyone confirm this is the case?

This is not the case. At least one of the recipients has an older sibling who is a college grad. The eligibility depends on your parents being college grads.

Is there any idea how competitive this is. I see that there's 5 recipients but I've read that about 15% of the class is first gen. Do you need HYS numbers?

Thanks! What was the interview like? I'm getting way ahead of myself since I haven't even applied yet, but I'm curious because I kind of dread interviews. Did they fly you out to the Bay area and everything?

Lmao ain't that the truth. I'm just sick of the patronizing. Like yeah diversity is cool, I'm glad you're "supporting" first generation, minority, etc - but damn, I don't live off being a minority. At the end of the day, it's about $! And if I can't have any that's fine, but it's insulting to blow up my inbox with all of these nice sounding words as if that's all I care about as a minority. smh. Sorry, rant over.

I was one of the people that called Berkeley Law and was told I was receiving $0 in merit aid. I then emailed them genuinely expressing that Berkeley Law is where I want to be (listing all of the reasons) and they came back with $90k... so it's possible and I encourage you to continue interacting with them even though it feels like layers of bureaucracy.
