Michigan c/o 2020 applicants (2016-17) Forum

Regarding the local alumni events, how many admitted students typically go to these? Since I'm unsure whether I can make it to ASW, I want to sign up for one, but if only alumni go I'm worried I'll feel out of place.

I went to one of the NYC ones last year around this time and it was a lot of fun! There were a bunch of admitted students and some alumni. I went to another in July and it was definitely more alumni heavy, but there was a professor there and some other admitted students.

Grew up in Michigan but not a current Mich student so take with a grain of salt - I don't think she should have much of an issue finding a job in the area, even if it's not directly in Ann Arbor. There are a lot of jobs in the metro Detroit area on the west side of the city that would be a relatively short commute from Ann Arbor, and I would think that her project management experience would make her an attractive job candidate for a variety of fields (how does she feel about working for one of the auto companies??)(not sure how many bio jobs there are! although Mich's hospital is ginormous and I don't know if she could find a position there).

Ann Arbor is a great city and I think has even more to offer for non-undergrads who have a bit of money. Really great dining options and lots of cool cultural things because of the university, and it is a really well developed city outside of the university. One of my friends lives near the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor border and really likes it there. And again - Ann Arbor is pretty close to a lot of other cities filled with young professionals that make for a good night out or place to go to spend the day like Royal Oak, Birmingham, Ferndale, Southfield, etc. etc.

Co-sign on this. Have lived within about 90 minutes from Ann Arbor all of my life one way or another. It has more professional opportunities by far than a city its size would otherwise, and even more within about 30 minutes driving distance. Certainly not the same as NYC/Chicago etc. in terms of immediate offerings, but AA isn't an abyss for job opportunities like many who are from bigger places think it would be, either.

There is hope in Michigan. I cannot speak to the circumstances in Virginia, still waiting on signs of life from UVA.

FINALLY got my WL after expecting it for months. 25 < LSAT & GPA < Median, MA URM, No Why Michigan. Just need a NYU decision and my cycle can be complete pending a HYS miracle.
