This was certainly my experience - I hadn't planned on checking my status checkers at all once going "complete" until I read here that everyone knew when they were UR1 and UR2 and refreshing 3x daily...sublimation wrote:BirdLawExpert wrote:Also I'm very glad that I didn't see that Johann tweet about holds/denies until after I checked my status for the fifth time today.
Also I'm potentially calling bullshit on 12 being the average number of times someone logs into status checker (unless it's per day). We 0L folk all seem to be way more neurotic than that.
I feel like TLSers and lurkers are exposed to a positive feedback loop of anxiety, especially if they browse this forum.

Re: Northwestern c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
Sorry to double post, just hoping for some feedback.
Can someone tell me about the Skype interview? I don't have a webcam, would it be a huge deal for me to do it without one? I'm guessing that would just make it a black screen, but they could still hear my answers?... Has anyone done this and been accepted? I'm assuming this would be preferable to not doing the interview at all, or am I wrong?...

disclaimer - I interviewed in person with an alum.LadyProspero wrote:Sorry to double post, just hoping for some feedback.

But I would venture to say that a skype interview without a webcam is not legit. Were I the adcom on the other side, I'd be pretty turned off by that...
Can you maybe borrow a friend's laptop? Alternatively - perfectly functional webcams can be found on amazon for like $15 - if that's what makes the difference between in and ding, I'd say that's more than worth it.

Yes, it would be a huge deal not to have a webcam - probably an automatic ding.LadyProspero wrote: Can someone tell me about the Skype interview? I don't have a webcam, would it be a huge deal for me to do it without one?

I figured. Thanks guys. Wish I would have applied earlier and done off campus. Webcam interview seems so awkward. I looked through the thread quickly but didn't see, does anyone know what kind of questions they ask? Being able to prep would be great.NUDad wrote:Yes, it would be a huge deal not to have a webcam - probably an automatic ding.LadyProspero wrote: Can someone tell me about the Skype interview? Unless this is a different interview than the normal admissions interview, it's not via Skype. If you've interviewed with Cornell, it's pretty much the same thing. A pre-recorded question gets put up on your screen and you have 30 seconds to think of a response and 60 seconds to answer. You aren't actually talking to someone. There's a whole a pool of questions they pull from randomly but many of them have been posted here./

I thought I heard they were more difficult than the Cornell questions (as in, more like a job interview instead of just why NU, etc)?gamerish wrote:Unless this is a different interview than the normal admissions interview, it's not via Skype. I think "difficulty" depends on the person. NU's questions are much more on-topic: they ask about why law, why NU, work experience, biggest weakness/failure, etc. Cornell has a lot more... fluffy interview questions like what's your favorite book and why. Some people find the NU questions more straightforward, others prefer the nature of Cornell's.LadyProspero wrote:I thought I heard they were more difficult than the Cornell questions (as in, more like a job interview instead of just why NU, etc)?gamerish wrote:Unless this is a different interview than the normal admissions interview, it's not via Skype. This was not my experience with NU's online interview. I received one question related to law school/northwestern (Why NU?) and received three very abstract questions that were more akin to traditional interview questions ("Would you rather solve a difficult problem with easy solutions or an easy problem with difficult solutions" is the only question I can remember being asked).gamerish wrote:I think "difficulty" depends on the person. If the typical interview is anything like mine, there is nothing you can do to prepare for the interview but 1.) Have a good answer prepared for the inevitable why law/why NU, and 2.) Run through the practice questions so you are comfortable with the format.

Re: Northwestern c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
Don't remember exact specifics for both, but I remember both Cornell and NU interview questions being really similar. I think the one exception was that NU had more. Cornell was my first and I thought I did pretty terribly (got caught off for almost every question) and I got in. Did way better on NU (still haven't heard back). So I think admissions definitely takes this into account. Honestly, I would worry more about having enough time and being able to give concise answers than the difficulty of the questions.WaitersIsland wrote:This was not my experience with NU's online interview. For those of us that have been complete since December, is there any point in sending an updated resume as a kind of "yes, I'm still interested" email? I recently started a new job, so it's not entirely pointless to give them more to review.

If anything, it will remind them that there are people complete in December to whom they still haven't given a decision. Sent it and got a response from the auto-sender thing saying they don't confirm updates. Who knows if they'll see it if they're making decisions today, but then at least I'll hear something.WhiteHouse wrote:If anything, it will remind them that there are people complete in December to whom they still haven't given a decision. I remember seeing this in one of the many pages, but what does a new complete date mean? Does this happen to everyone?

^^prob just them putting you to one of three piles: admit, hold, or deny.
people have been admitted both with and without a 'complete' date change
people have been admitted both with and without a 'complete' date change
