Does anyone know the consequences of accepting an offer and then later reneging on that acceptance if something you can't refuse comes along? I imagine it's poor form, but are there any dire consequences?

I'm not sure it'll come to that. OCIJ says that they're so backed up that the background check paperwork might not come until after we've already started and we might be on a background check waiver for our entire term.

It's bad. They made this clear during the interviews about the three year commitment. If you reneg on an acceptance or pull out before the three years are up, they notify future employers. My guess is it would also come up if you ever tried to work for the federal gov. again.

How do they notify future employers (who by definition don’t exist yet)?

Did anyone notice that the SF-85p is now obsolete? Does that mean it all has to be through the SF-86? It looks like it went obsolete in November

I accepted and declined the offer within a week before starting any paperwork and background checks. Shouldn’t that be fine?

probably. sorry i should clarify the notifying future employers thing i believe is if you start and leave before three years is up. Essentially if the future employer calls for a reference, they will say you left before your three year term is up.

It is possible I am misremembering my interview. If so, apologies for creating unneeded stress.

From my understanding, it means that nothing in my e-QIP is immediately disqualifying and I’m cleared to start work. The full background investigation is still pending.
