Did anyone not (yet) selected as a finalist for OCIJ choose more rural/small courts for their top 5, as compared to big cities? I know the preference sheet said "offers are court-specific," so I'm wondering if none of the 5 courts people preferenced were even hiring clerks, then they would just not be chosen as finalists.

All my ranks were big cities but I expressed this concern during my interview and my interviewer specifically said that the list of 60 courts were all courts that requested clerks this year. I guess it's just a matter of which courts will actually get clerks and which won't.

I put down four smaller courts but I threw in one big one for this exact reason. I wonder if the individual courts have any input.

Finalist here. I put places potential clerks don't want to go. The border, Stewart GA, LaSalle. AFAIK most courts want clerks, and the competition is with people wanting NYC, Arlington VA, etc.

At least in past years, they didn't give you the option of listing a place that wasn't hiring clerks.

Any clue how late in the day finalists could come in by tomorrow? Waiting on ENRD, had my references checked at the end of last week.

Last year ENRD didn't meet the deadline, and announced some on the Thursday before the Friday deadline, and only identified the rest of the finalists the following Monday.

It seems like Deana usually stops posting around 5 or 5:30, although there were some posts as late as 7:44 pm last year.

Anyone know if negotiating salary is possible? Is it normal? Frowned upon? Step or Grade?
Pay info available here and is not up for negotiation: https://www.justice.gov/legal-careers/a ... d-benefits

Current OCIJ clerk here. I know several people who received offers from courts they didn’t even rank. The preferences y’all gave are just preferences.

Another anon here! I just want to point out that OCIJ hiring is probably going to be different from past years since they’re only hiring 25 people and we were only allowed to rank 5 locations.

I also had my references checked last Thursday for ENRD. I'm hoping it's a good sign given that some others didn't have theirs checked? It's all so up in the air though.

Yep! Although no idea how much of a cut this was for them. Got the sense they weren’t making any further decisions until December from the interview.
