I think, too, that the distinction is that in CRT’s eyes they’re designating a finalist, but that’s info that goes to OARM who’s organizing the whole honors process, not them contacting you. Even though you will find out that you’re a finalist, CRT isn’t contacting you about that.

And frankly I think some components only interview people that they consider finalists, so they may not actually be winnowing people down at this point? I don’t believe they have to cut anyone when they designate finalists (some components definitely will, but I don’t think they have to, especially depending on how many people they interviewed to start with).

What happens if you receive an offer call from one branch, but are waiting to find out if you are a finalist for another branch (that has yet to post)? Not expecting to be in that situation, but wondering if there is a good protocol for this?

Based on what components have said previously, you should reach out to the components from which you have not yet heard and tell them that you have a pending offer from someone else. That 14-day window is going to close quickly and you want to give all components the opportunity to get back to you with a decision. If it's your first choice that gets back to you first...well that's another story.

May we all be lucky enough to receive multiple offers! Fingers crossed for us all.

Thank them. Let them know you have to discuss the offer with your family or significant other and you can’t wait to get back with them.

And then quickly email the other branch letting them know if they are your top pick that another place gave an offer.

You get 14 days to accept the offer so you have that time to get a decision from the other branch, though I don't know how amenable DOJ is to prodding with competing offers.

I think offers are open for two weeks. If you receive one, graciously thank the offering branch and let them know you need some time to think it over. Then, if you get both offers, accept the better one.

Then again, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush...

Congrats to those with a TAX-CIV offer! I know a guy who was a SLIP there a few summers back and really enjoyed the work environment!

Additional Civil Division HP and SLIP finalists are posted. For HP, most were for Federal Programs, Torts, Consumer Protection, and OIL-District Courts just went up.

Deana said they haven’t said they identified all finalists yet though!

Please note: Civil Division has NOT confirmed that it has identified all finalists. This is an interim update."

Does Deana's most recent post mean some of those branches (i.e. CONS, Torts, etc.) may not have designated all finalists?

If ENRD hasn't checked my references yet and they're ostensibly extending offers next week should I just assume I'm out of the running?

That is how I understood it. I *think* you will be notified once a branch has selected all of its finalists and if you were not one of them.

Sounds like they haven't done everyone? Hard to say.

Also, can I ask where y'all are getting these updates? I don't see them in my portal and I'm not getting any emails from her

I’m not convinced you’re necessarily out of the running. Deana said that reference have to be checked before an offer is given; but she didn’t explicitly say it was required prior to being designated a finalist. Theoretically that could mean they designate finalists, by Friday, check references next week, then get offer clearance and extend the actual offers later. I admit that’s a silly way to do it, but it seems consistent with the rules.

For what it’s worth, none of my references have let me know they were contacted either (although I wouldn’t be surprised if they did, and just didn’t let me know either).

Deana said some do the reference check after designating finalists but before offers.

Go the community tab on avue. I also just learned that Deana posts updates there.

EOIR finalists are tricking in, as Deana just posted. Unsure of which component though.
