Technically a TJO but I am an AUSA in another district so will be a transfer.

Anyone with any movement lately? Received TJO in December, have yet to even begin background screening. Consistently going roughly a month between communications with the office and OPM and wondering if this is expected or if something is up. Anyone gotten further than I have?

Not normal. Mine has been 4.5 weeks from an offer till EOD date.

That’s an extremely quick timeline and abnormal. It is most often 3 months or so. It took me 6 months back in 2023 from TJO to eod.

Received my TJO as a transfer from another district earlier this month. It was about 3.5 months or so from the date of the end of applications until the offer. Best of luck everyone!

I guess I am the abnormal one here. Recently accepted Main Justice offer (moving from a USAO).
Timeline(approx): applications close on Friday->Tuesday next week is an interview offer->1 round of interviews on Wednesday the week after->offer on Friday the same week.

Any insight on time from first interview to (reasonably delayed) start date, assuming one wants to take time off after biglaw or for life events? I see this in two parts: time to offer and then time until start date after accepting offer.

Quoting myself and sharing an update, in case somebody in a similar situation in 2026 should stumble upon this forum. My hiring USAO told me earlier today that it received my security waiver. Given that I did my drug test and submitted my SF-86 on the same day, I would guess that my SF-86 took around two weeks to be processed.

Avoid SDTX--doesn't matter whether it is Houston or the border offices. This has nothing to do with the types of cases they are doing there, or the current administration. A good chunk of your colleagues will be people in their 40s who are still mentally in highschool(not in a cool way--imagine an office full of "Mean Girls" cast), and the leadership is malicious.

How is the 25 mile rule for AUSAs under 28 USC 545 calculated? Is it from the office or the tip of the district? Is it air miles/as the crow flies or driving miles?

I am not sure what the formal measurement is. I live about ten miles driving from the border of the district.
