Hi, I'll be going to a firm with a major securities and antitrust litigation practice. What are the pros and cons of securities litigation vs antitrust litigation? For context, I really enjoy the intellectual aspect of antitrust law, but I'm worried that I'll have less hands-on experience in working among huge antitrust teams compared to securities litigation (which I know are more "streamlined" like traditional litigation practices?).
So, my questions are: 1. Which practice area is more intellectually stimulating? 2. Which practice area allows for more hands-on experience as a junior/mid-level, assuming I do a good job? 3. What are my exit opportunities if I don't get promoted? 4. Is becoming an antitrust litigation partner/counsel more difficult than a securities litigation partner/counsel? 5. Is the day-to-day life of an antitrust litigator different from a securities litigator? 6. I've heard that securities litigators get to work more with different partners and seniors, whereas antitrust litigators have less flexibility because they are stuck working on huge, long cases.
I'm just having a really hard time deciding which of the two practice areas I'd want to do (because 1. I know the stuff I'll do during summer might not be very reflective of what I'll do as a full time associate 2. I've already handled a securities opinion in court, but I've never done actual antitrust work), 3. I want to lock in early).
