Entering BigLaw at 30?

Post by phb109 » Wed Apr 14, 2021 2:00 pm

Heading to law school this fall at age 27 and wondering how common it is for someone my age to get a job at in biglaw. Assuming I can rank high enough in my class, should I be concerned about being too old for biglaw? Any comments from older biglaw associates on their experience would be helpful as well.

A fair portion of your class will be your age or older. I wouldn't worry about this at all.

I'll be entering at 37. At 30, I can't imagine age is even an issue.

Age in and of itself won't be an issue. I know more than a few Big Law first years who are 35+. Just make sure your resume has a clear narrative. The older one is, the more complicated one's background tends to be, which can irk big law hiring partners who went K-JD. But this is more for people entering at 32-33+; I'm not sure entering law school at 27 would even raise an eyebrow.

Not an issue at all - as someone who also entered law school around your age and is currently a first year in Big Law, I found my work experience and maturity was nothing but a positive for me during interviewing and has continued to serve me well now that I'm working.

I hope not, I am older than you and also starting law school this fall and aiming for a biglaw job.

They'll work you as had as a 25 year old first year. Biglaw sucks for everyone.
