As a Quebec resident, McGill costs about 4500 a year. If your parent is a staff at the university, it costs 1600.

I'm from upstate NY so I automatically qualify for Canadian citizenship right?BirdLawExpert wrote:Fucking what. Okay, new plan. McGill or bust. Gotta speak decent French to go to McGill my American friends...or else i would have applied there. Also they dont require the LSAT. Also their tuition is in Canadian dollars which makes it considerably cheaper.

I did an French immersion program for a month in Montreal when i was 18. We had classes like 5hrs a day monday to friday. Didnt learn any french, just ended up getting drunk and going out a lot because the drinking age is 18 there. I miss Montreal.BirdLawExpert wrote:I mean I grew up with creole being spoken in the house, so if I have to I can learn French.jnwa wrote:Gotta speak decent French to go to McGill my American friends...or else i would have applied there. I identify with this strongly. My undergrad has a 6 semester language requirement and I kept passing to each level without getting any better than I was the semester before. I can still only order foodcapricasixx wrote:I took five years of American public school French... which means I can order food.jnwa wrote:Gotta speak decent French to go to McGill my American friends...or else i would have applied there. Yep, I have a minor in Chinese and can speak Mandarin about as well as a close friend who visited Beijing for a few weeks. Language instruction is completely bogus at 95% of schools, immersion without hand-holding is the only way to actually get fluent in anything.jumbo2016 wrote:I identify with this strongly. Honestly Duolingo is an amazing tool if you're either taking daily classes which are in a pure immersion environment (i.e. the only language spoken in the classroom is the new language) or speaking with a native speaker at least three or four times a week. By itself it won't do anything but help you with vocab.jnwa wrote:*Uninstalls Duolingo from phone*BirdLawExpert wrote:Yep, I have a minor in Chinese and can speak Mandarin about as well as a close friend who visited Beijing for a few weeks. I've worked for a language education non-profit since high school so I've been involved in this for a while; Duolingo is actually a very well-built app for language learning, but at best it's a supplement to a real immersion environment since it is mostly asking you English questions with new-language answers. The most effective language acquisition and education occurs in an environment where you can't use English as a reference point.

Dig deep. Get coffee. Read newspaper articles about Scalia's legacy because who's going to get made at you if you're reading about the Supreme Court?ugg wrote:3 more hours and I JUST CANT DO IT
