On a related note, I have decided on UT! I haven't used my scholarship match yet, so I want to see if they will raise mine just a bit. Do you guys think it would be better to do this before the first deposit or afterwards? On one hand, I suppose I have more leverage before the deposit, but on the other hand, there will probably be more funding to go around after the deposit. Any thoughts?

I submitted only two offers to the matching programs (WashU full, Emory 129k) on Monday and UT just increased my offer from 5k/year to 18/year (in state). Pretty pleasantly surprised, but they definitely low balled me from the start.
The Financial Aid office said info about need-based grants will be released next week. Right now UT is looking pretty enticing to me.

Misread the info and it is actually pretty spot on as far as expected (edited my post)
ETA: there are required steps that you have to agree to loans and there is a pretty nice financial worksheet that makes it more clear exactly what you are receiving and how much is left over, etc. Anyone know timeline on agreeing to the loans/amounts?

Got need-based info yesterday around mid-day, and it's definitely a difference-maker, particularly is it stays similar for second and third years.

My bad. I should not have referred to it as "need-based." It appears exclusively made up of grants from Texas gov., presumably for Texas residents.

Any ideas about the 'University Tuition Grant - Initial Graduate'? From the title it sounds like it may just be a 1L thing

I think that usually out of staters don't get grants
Not sure UT does true need aid, I qualified for an LSAC fee waiver but didn't get any need aid at UT.
