I just got a call and was accepted into OU Law Class of 2013!!!!!

Don't worry. When I visited I asked if I should have received some kind of complete email. They said that they don't send complete emails. If you have not heard anything then I would say you're fine. Call them if you're still concerned. They're friendly.

I don't have exact percentages but I believe OU is like most T2 schools. Top 5-10% have a shot. Anything lower than that and you can forget about it. OKC is a secondary market at best. A couple firms may have offices in OKC. OU or any other T2 is not the place to go for people with biglaw or bust mentalities.

OU is the best law school in Oklahoma so if you know that you can be happy in OK, OU is the place to go. I also learned that the bar in Oklahoma is reciprocal with Texas' so there is the chance to break into the Dallas market if you wanted to (and I have heard of people who have done that).

I've visited. I was pretty impressed as well although I only have SMU and UT to compare it with. It was smaller than the other two but very nice nonetheless.

The ones I hear about all the time are McAfee and Taft, and Crowe and Dunlevy. I know the most about them because I'm very interested in them. There are a few others that I've heard of, but haven't looked into as much as the first two. (Like Connor and Winters, Hartzog Conger Cason and Neville, etc.) I would say those are the best examples of OK "biglaw." There are quite a few "midlaw" firms, and boutiques too.


And I'm really biased, but I think OU grounds are very beautiful. Molly Shi has worked really hard on the landscape, etc. And the reading room in the library is so pretty.

I was also very impressed with their facilities when I visited. It's definitely a place I could see myself spending the next three years.

Panadera, I think you have it figured out about the large firms in OKC. Biglaw in its traditional sense (500+attorneys, 150K salaries) does not exist in OKC. However, a gig with the firms you mentioned should get you something like 75K-90K in starting salary. That type of money goes really far in place like Oklahoma.

Congrats! was there any mention of scholarship money or aid? I believe they tend to be pretty generous with their aid packages.

I got a 10,000 per year non-resident tuition waiver. I thought that was pretty generous given that their tuition is already pretty cheap.

From what I understand, yea. The language in the letter was a bit confusing but I think the gist of it is that I get the difference between nonresident and resident tuition waived.

Does anyone mind sharing the timeframe it took OU to give them an answer? I live in Oklahoma and just recently applied. I'm just wondering how long of a wait I've got on my hands. Also, do they only notify you via phone call? Thanks in advance for any information guys!
