Re: Columbia Class of 2017
I have a similar offer from CLS and T14 competitor. Just submitted appeal today. Not sure what is going to happen, but your experience doesn't give me a ton of hope.Humbert Humbert wrote:Appeal denied, ugh. Offer is decent (40k), not great. Anyone else in this boat? Would like to hear some other perspectives, particularly if you are going (or have gone) through a similar decision.

I did the housing app prior to depositing... Is that an issue?tlsapp2017 wrote:Same. Oh well; it was only 12k different from the NYU scholarship that I lost yesterday, so it's not a huge deal for me. I'm glad they finally got back to me though - now I can officially deposit and start the housing app!scoobers wrote:Request denied.

I did as well; don't see why it would be a problem, especially as there was no mention of needing to deposit before applying anywhere in their literature.gta wrote:I did the housing app prior to depositing... But technically haven't all the NYU offers already exploded? So isn't that leverage lost?scoobers wrote:did anyone appeal with an NYU offer?

I think the later ones didn't have the 21st deadline, maybe?neprep wrote:But technically haven't all the NYU offers already exploded? So isn't that leverage lost?scoobers wrote:did anyone appeal with an NYU offer?

Not necessarily. You could have gotten an extension, or even deposited at NYU. You would just have to withdraw before depositing at CLS after.neprep wrote:But technically haven't all the NYU offers already exploded? So isn't that leverage lost?scoobers wrote:did anyone appeal with an NYU offer?

True, true. I just had in mind that Scoobers specifically didn't deposit or get an extension.buffalo_ wrote:Not necessarily. You could have gotten an extension, or even deposited at NYU. and also, i think s/he was just curious whether an NYU offer had more OOMPH than a Chi offer

Just got an offer today.
How do you appeal? Do you send a letter to financial aid office email address?

I believe so. I just sent an email to the Financial Aid office email after a few others in this thread said they did it that way.esperanto wrote:Just got an offer today.

Same here, I appealed and NYU got back to me yesterday and the offer said the deadline is 5/2FOM wrote:Mine said 05/02 so there's probably others as wellneprep wrote:But technically haven't all the NYU offers already exploded? Humbert, sounds like we're in the same boat almost exactly (Solid $$$ at Duke, SO in Manhattan, CLS being our top choice from the beginning).Humbert Humbert wrote:Appeal denied, ugh. Anyone else in this boat? Would like to hear some other perspectives, particularly if you are going (or have gone) through a similar decision.
I made a thread about it a few days back, here: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 1&t=228299

Re: Columbia Class of 2017
You also have to consider how much more that 100K from Duke is worth vis-a-vis COL between the two areas. It's a very tough decision to make, but if you are financing CLS through debt, you are looking at 260-270K+ total. The debt from Duke would be substantially less. Goals matter a lot here. If you want NYC biglaw, I don't know if CLS is all too justifiable.Humbert Humbert wrote:Appeal denied, ugh. Offer is decent (40k), not great. I have a larger offer (~100k) from Duke. a few weeks ago she was telling me to go to Berkeley, so to see her pop up at their main rival for my affections is a bit weird. other than that, she seemed pretty kickass.buffalo_ wrote:Anyone have thoughts on this?Theopliske8711 wrote:New Dean announced: http://news.columbia.edu/oncampus/3428

To add to my last post: does your SO life on their own? Are you close enough to possibly live with them? If so, that will help a lot.

Re: Columbia Class of 2017
Looool, I literally just saw her at Berkeley a week and a half ago (as I'm sure many ITT did as well) where she spoke to us about how she's basically Berkeley/California for life and how we should totes be Berkeley students. They probably... should not have had her speak at the ASW if she was up for candidacy to be a dean at a rival school in a process that would become public before this admissions cycle is even over.buffalo_ wrote:Anyone have thoughts on this?Theopliske8711 wrote:New Dean announced: http://news.columbia.edu/oncampus/3428
Unfortunately, I distinctly remember thinking she was a bad public speaker and not a professor I'd want... but I'm sure she is a lovely individual?
eta: My standards are unreasonably high because I felt personally romanced by Dean Morrison over at NYU. May or may not have an indecent secret crush.
