Is a NYC federal clerkship guaranteed for a YLS student? Do all who want SDNY/EDNY from Yale get? Are the odds better than Harvard or Stanford? Thanks.

I went to YLS and clerked on SDNY. It’s by no means guaranteed, and, in at least my chambers, we would have wanted to see pretty much all Hs on your transcript if you were applying on-plan after 2L.

Does no more than 2 Ps put someone in range?

It is definitely not guaranteed at all. You still have to be solid with lots of Hs (in your doctrinal classes), have good recommenders, and have a good interview. Even then, there are so many applicants and it's so competitive that you could be great and still not get one. If you keep trying year after year and will go with any SDNY/EDNY district judge without being picky, then your odds increase. EDNY is slightly less competitive, but even there, it varies judge to judge.
