Anyone have information on Matheson re hiring preferences? Grades, school, etc

You should know that Matheson is a miserable experience, but if I remember correctly two of his current clerks are HLS grads

Clerking for Matheson is an intense experience and definitely not for everyone, but not "miserable" in the realm of Holmes or Hartz. He's a very smart judge with zero emotional intelligence. Hires mostly HYS but not exclusively; cares a lot about grades. Just don't expect any vacation days off (or words of encouragement).

Can anyone speak to the job prospects for a 10th circuit clerk? I feel like the 10th is generally accepted as one of the least competitive circuits and I’m wondering how that translates in looking for jobs.

Is there a demand for 10th circuit clerks outside of the states within the jurisdiction? I’m thinking like NYC, DC, or California.

You're still a circuit clerk. Of course there is going to be demand and value for 10th circuit clerks in NYC, DC, or California.

The judges on the Tenth Circuit are generally very good and not ideologues. Tymkovich, Hartz, Bacharach, Matheson, McHugh, Phillips, Eid, and Rossman are all good judges (though some might be worse bosses). Seymour is old, but the work product is fantastic.

I personally know 10th circuit clerks who ended up at top litigation shops in all three of those markets within the last few years.

Probably one of the smartest judges in the country. Clerks work relatively long hours, but he works even more. As for hiring, he prefers candidates who already have a COA lined up or can get one, and he hires a lot from H and Chi with strong grades.
