i see a fair number of cameras at the red lights on route 29/emmett/seminole/wtfever. am i looking at sensors, or red light cameras? yellow light time feels a little shorter here than in jersey, so this may be something relevant to next months budget.

Doesn't necessarily mean they're not cameras but I've been in Cville a long time and have never heard of there being red light cameras.

I think there are lights inside the red light to make them more noticeable; not sure if that's what you mean.

well, there are some strange structures on the traffic light pole on pretty much every single traffic pole i've seen on 29, and on a few there are these:

if you're on millmont and arlington, right behind barracks, there's one of them on the traffic light that goes perpendicular parallel to arlington.

either way, i guess the point is moot if no one's been getting tickets. they're probably something else.

edit: i'm a sloppy idiot who meant to say parallel to arlington, not perpendicular.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but there is open gym basketball at North Grounds most days, and law students usually play on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at around 5. We send around an e-mail list so if you'd like to be notified about the times PM me.

after a few hours of research:

comcast: 29.99 for the first 6 months+$59.95=you need to get your old routers+$100.00 installation fees=WTF? Seriously? That's a lot more than I'm paying right now in cali just for internet only. I'm an IT major, I know how to set up my own internet.

Century link= free router+moden+14.95 installation fee+29.99 a month=not bad. But is it a good company?

Requestion: does anyone know how century link is?

I'm not sure since I've only heard about Century link when I got here, but I got the impression that they were DSL? I like cable better.

There is a self installation kit available at Best Buy, but Comcast should offer it directly too. I got set-up through a third party Allconnect when I got my power and they waived all fees so it's just the 29.99. I think usually comcast charges around 9 bucks for the kit and service.

Anyway, I'm new to this site and to the area. Is there anything going on tonight? I am le bored.

I think he's talking about the long white things attached to the light structures at most intersections. They definitely look like cameras, but I've also never heard of someone getting a red-light ticket through a camera.

FYI those are 3M Opticon traffic preemption systems. Fire engines + ambulances are equipped with IR transmitters that signal the device and turn the light green for their direction of travel. The white light flashes when the system is engaged.
