Winston vs. Sidley? (Chicago lit)

Post by Anonymous User » Fri Jan 16, 2026 1:17 am

I know Sidley has a better national reputation but it seems like in Chicago, Winston may be equal or better. I may want to work at DOJ/SEC down the line but not 100% sure.

For many Winston will always be the better lit firm because Dan Webb is there. Whether you believe in Dan Webb supremacy or not is up to you. Otherwise they are both big firms in Chicago with good reputations. From my friends at Sidley, Sidley seems much closer to the Kirkland grind than its "collegial" marketing lets on. For SEC/DOJ goals partner connections are probably most helpful. Probably people in both firms who can help with that.
