Is it even worth my time to try and negotiate?

OK. Here is my situation: I've got offers from two peer schools. School A gave me $57K over 3 yrs. School B gave me $50K over 3 years. However, if I work PI my 2L summer, it will be $60K. School A is a few spots lower than School B.

Is it worth my time to even say anything to School B, or will I get laughed at?

Thanks!

Depends on school and your numbers.

Do you want to do PI?

Ultimately, yes.

I just want to hedge my bet and work firm 2L to secure an offer. I'm not ruling out a prestigious PI position though (if it can lead to an offer).

It's definitely worth your time--just don't be a dick about it. The worst thing that can happen is you'll get turned down. And the reason it's worth your time: the 2 hours you spend finely crafting that polite letter could yield a wage of thousands per hour. Much better than you'll get at any job post-graduation.
