UF full scholly vs UVA w/ no money Forum

Tough decision for my friend trying to get some outside opinions. He's pretty sure he wants to practice in Florida.

If he wants to practice in Florida, and doesn't mind small/midlaw or PI--UF. If he has ANY other aspirations at all (Biglaw, academia, high-level government, anything outside of Florida)--UVA.

if he knows he wants to practice in FL, then it would be almost silly to not take UF full scholly. I dunno how well he would do coming back to FL after UVA, with tons of debt. I'm sure a FL grad at the top of the class would have an easier time finding a job.

I don't know. But a full ride at UF doesn't add up. If you look at LSN, it just doesn't really happen; they're notoriously stingy. Maybe I'm wrong or UF is being more generous this year.

I don't know. But a full ride at UF doesn't add up. If you look at LSN, it just doesn't really happen; they're notoriously stingy. Maybe I'm wrong or UF is being more generous this year.

They give out a few (VERY few, but a few) big scholarships. Plus they reduced their class size...maybe they have a little more $$ to throw around.

He's in state so it doesn't take much to get a full ride.

His #s are 169/4.0 and he's a uf undergrad so it just seems like they are pushing hard to keep him in gville for another 3 years. He's leaning towards UF, I'm trying to get him to go to UVA. But he does have good reasons to stay (fiance etc) and it would be nice for him to start off life with no debt (thanks to bright futures). Thanks for the opinions so far.

Personally, I would go to UVA. But I wouldn't push him to go $200k in debt.

Yes, UF gives out money. They gave me more than full tuition. I turned them down for a T-14.

Being an in-state applicant matters. I got almost a full-ride offer this year. My friend who is a 1L at UF negotiated her way into a full in-state ride.

Interestingly, she turned down UVA for UF and hasn't looked back. Don't know if I will follow suit.
